According to Meg Hansen, executive director of Vermonters for Health Care Freedom, Green Mountain Care was “Vermont’s ill-fated tryst with ‘Medicare for All.’” Hansen says her state’s experience “emphasizes the need to educate the American people that single-payer can only deliver ruinous results on our economy and jeopardize the quality of and access to health care.”

As Hansen sees it, lawmakers in Congress and other states can learn from Vermont’s mistakes.

“Honest number crunching sealed Green Mountain Care’s fate and offers a moral to the other states in the union,” Hansen said. “Vermont failed so you don’t have to.”
